Surf Lessons near Palm Coast & Flagler Beach, FL
- About 1 hour 20 minutes south of Palm Coast
- From $99 per surfer
- Board, rash guard & wetsuit included
Flagler Beach and Ormond Beach are lovely, and they are the northern end of a coast where the driving-on-the-beach tradition and the steep shorebreak both come with the territory. Lovely to look at, and a steep place to learn.
We teach an hour and twenty minutes south, on the soft sandbar at Cocoa Beach, in waist-deep water with an instructor beside the board. Everything you need is on the sand, and lessons run every morning from 9:00 AM.
Getting here from Palm Coast & Flagler Beach
About 1 hour 20 minutes south of Palm Coast
- From Palm Coast and Flagler Beach, take I-95 south to SR 528 east, then follow the causeway into Cocoa Beach — about 1 hour 20 minutes.
- From Ormond Beach and the northern Volusia beaches, A1A south past Daytona is the scenic route, and I-95 south to SR 528 is the quicker one.
Your confirmation names the exact beach access point, where to park and where on the sand to meet your instructor.
Gentler than the northern shorebreak
The Flagler and Volusia shorebreak is steep and can be unforgiving. Our inside section reforms softly over sand.
A day trip with a purpose
About 1 hour 20 south on I-95 and SR 528. Come for the morning, stay for the pier and downtown Cocoa Beach.
Gear waiting on the sand
Surfboard, rash guard and wetsuit included with every lesson — no rental stop on the way down.
Beginners of every age
Adults, kids from age 6 and whole families learn here in the same shallow, calm water.
Why Palm Coast and Flagler surfers come south
The beaches from Ormond up through Flagler are some of the most attractive on the East Coast, but two things work against a first lesson: the shorebreak is steep, and the north end of this coast is where the driving-on-the-sand tradition concentrates both traffic and the crowds that follow it.
Cocoa Beach gives you the same Atlantic swell over a long, soft sandbar with a shallow inside section where you can stand up. That is the whole reason we teach there, and it is why guests drive down from Volusia and Flagler every week.
What the lesson gives you
A private one-on-one lesson is $99 for one hour or $169 for two, with an instructor dedicated to you. Kids from age 6 ride soft-top boards sized to them, and family or group sessions start at three people at $99 each for an hour.
Boards, rash guards and wetsuits are included. Nothing is charged to request a time: we confirm your slot first, and if the wind or swell is wrong on the day we move it rather than take you out in poor conditions.
Getting here from Palm Coast and Flagler Beach
I-95 south to SR 528, then east over the causeway, is the straightforward route at around 1 hour 20 from Palm Coast and Flagler Beach. From Ormond Beach and the northern Volusia beaches you can take A1A south for the view or I-95 for the speed.
We send the exact beach access, the parking and where your instructor is standing when we confirm, so the end of the drive is a straight walk onto the sand.
The rest of the day
If you are making the drive, build a day around it. The Cocoa Beach Pier, the surf shops along A1A and downtown are all minutes from the lesson, Kennedy Space Center is about 35 to 45 minutes north, and rocket launches are visible from this beach.
Surf at 9:00 AM, rinse off at the oceanfront park showers, eat on A1A and head north in the afternoon. Most guests from Volusia and Flagler are home well before dinner.
